Program designers and coordinators should ensure that they engage in the communities beyond the requirements of their projects. Holistic community engagement  builds trust and buy-in from community members.  I volunteer in the communities where I deliver my programs as a way of engaging in my participants' lived realities.  This in turn contributes to my participants' sustained engagement.
